It is a very common knowledge that a host of our health related issues are the direct result of our poor eating habits. When you are hungry, you want to eat something which is palatable and really tasty. Unfortunately, most of the good foods that are treats to our palates are also pretty unhealthy. What’s more concerning is that these foods are so good to eat, we end up overeating them. If you are on a healthy diet, overeating of the nutritious food may not pose health issues; however, the junk food does. Here is how you can avoid overeating.

Drink lots and lots of water every day. Drinking water has many health benefits but the biggest advantage is that it instantly makes you feel fool and kills your appetite. The best practice is to drink lots of water at least half an hour prior to your meal time. Drinking water before the meal will also aid your digestive system. Remember that you should not drink water right after the meal. Doing so can hamper the digestion process. Instead, wait for at least an hour after the meal before you take the first sip.

Do you know the biggest culprit of overeating? It is our nervous system. When you are hungry and begin to eat, it takes about 20-25 minutes for the nerves to carry the message from the stomach to the brain. Hence even if you have eaten beyond your hunger, you will not realize it until after this period of time. The idea is to eat frequently but in smaller quantities.
